FotoFloor - Festive Opening 'Silhouettes'

A very busy and pleasant opening of the first show by FotoFloor (= Floor Stoop and Mike van der Giessen) in the gallery. We already had lot's of interest (and sales!) up front so it wasn't a big surprise that so many people came to see these two great artists and their work.

The only way to get people out was stop serving drinks ... :-))

And -as usual- I hardly have the time to take pictures, but there were a lot of others doing that, so let's see what else can be added in the next few days.

Hardly possible to get in anymore, luckily it didn't rain, so people could stand outside as well.

The 'Wall of Fame', with other work by FotoFloor (lot's of Famous Dutch artists) and on the table the secret diaries of Floor, with all her inspiration for the photographs. A great and seldom seen insight.

 

Amanda on national television

           

Amanda is going to help me as a junior curator at the Naarden PhotoFestival next year and she also helped at our booth at the PAN Amsterdam art fair. The minute she set foot in the booth she was spotted by the Dutch television program "Man bijt Hond" (= Man bites Dog). That was because she was wearing high heel shoes that they liked.

It was broadcasted this Friday.

Her minute of fame is from 7:19 - 8:17 min at the video. Hope it works ... also two shots I took and some stills. And if the video doesn't work ... then this is the url.

 

Fotografiska Museet in Stockholm

The newest photography museum in the world (opened  20 May 2010) and already one of the better ones! They always invite me to their opening parties, but it's not around the corner of course. So it was great to visit Fotografiska, an initiative of Jan and Per Broman.

This time they showed work of Sandy Skoglund (she was born in Sweden of course), Pieter ten Hoopen (a Dutch photographer who lives in Stockholm) and a large group exhibition of fashion photography (based on the collection of Camera Work in Berlin).

It was astonishingly busy! That's always a pleasure to notice. Of course the Moderna Museet in Stockholm also has a nice collection of photographs, but that's a completely different setting and background. So Fotografiska is worth the visit, don't miss it when you happen to be in Stockholm.

L'Amour Fou

This morning we went to see the great documentary 'L'Amour Fou', about Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé.

It's a moving portrait about YSL, told by his partner Pierre Bergé. In this film by Pierre Thoretton we get to know these two people a bit better. As is often the case: the life of a true artist isn't always that easy ... Despite the glamour, wealth and the great art collection YSL was still unhappy and depressed.
